Sunglasses Makes One Invisible

Small towns – God love ‘em! I happen to live in one – ‘bless my heart!’

Today, I wore my sunglasses, as always. If there is any semblance of light, no matter how dim, no matter the weather, my sunglasses are on. Being a sun-lover myself, my fair-skinned and green eyes disagrees with myself, for ‘they’ view that burning ball of fire with hatred and animosity.

Anyhoo, doesn’t EVERYONE know when one wears sunglasses they are invisible? Come on now. If sunglasses are super-dark, like mine, obviously, we do this so others cannot see all the eye-rolling taking place. Usually, I don’t like to talk while wearing them, either.

The poor ‘critter’ that is a small-town by-product MUST talk to everyone that crosses his or her path…geez! Even with my edgy new super-short haircut (hate it) many have yet to see; even with my super-dark sunglasses on yesterday, I am stopped twice, by two ‘mouths from the south.’ I ran into the store to grab a quick item, and SHE was already in there running her mouth, finally realized I was behind her, lets me check out, only to say, “Wait, I know you!” I wanted to scream, “No you DON’T! I am wearing my sunglasses!!!” Besides, the last time she saw me was fifteen years ago, and my hair was edgy and super-short (hated it then). Of course I have seen her during these fifteen years, but I bobbed and weaved all over the place to ignore her.

The second place I stopped was at the gas pump. One of my sibling’s ‘friends,’ was already taking to the guy ahead of me at the pump, and was checking me out, doing the ‘double-take’ to see who I was, so he could pump me for information and be a general gossip and yappy lips. I actually held my nose up in the air, looking everywhere, BUT at him, and my sunglasses and I pretended like we were unaware he was there gawking at us.

I get tickled at one of my Facebook friends. She tries so hard to dodge people that are chatty Kathys at the Supercenter, only to come-face-to-face with them a few aisles over, or at the checkouts. Maybe SHE should try sunglasses…

The next time you are in the South and you happen to see a beautiful woman ‘unaware’ of you and wearing super-dark sunglasses…please don’t try to even hold a conversation…she is invisible!!!!
